Real Madrid rule out Raphael Varane move

Raphael Varane set to join Como.

Real Madrid are not interested in re-signing Raphael Varane amid the injury to David Alaba, as they could look at other options.

According to Marca, Real Madrid could potentially rule out a move for Raphael Varane, as the Frenchman may no longer fit their style. The Manchester United star has had speculation surrounding his Old Trafford future, but a return to the Santiago Bernabeu looks unlikely.

Real Madrid injury crisis

Real Madrid suffered a massive double blow at the start of the season with ACL injuries sustained by Thibaut Courtois and Eder Militao. Without acting rashly in the market to replace those stars, the Spanish giants left the centre-back responsibility to the incumbent. They signed Kepa Arrizabalaga on loan from Chelsea to replace Courtois.

However, they suffered a third blow as David Alaba tore his ACL in a recent game, forcing Real Madrid back into the hunt for a centre-back. Carlo Ancelotti has insisted the club could target the right player and will sign someone if they are available.

A host of names like Willian Pacho have been recently linked with a move, as Real Madrid reportedly view him as a replacement for Alaba. Lately, there have been links to Raphael Varane, but Real Madrid won’t sign their former star.

According to some reports, Varane remains open to a move, but Real Madrid may have moved on from him for good and may look at another option. Hence, the chances of the Manchester United star, who arrived at Old Trafford in a €40 million deal, returning to Santiago Bernabeu are slim to none.

Raphael Varane situation at Manchester United

Erik ten Hag started the season with Varane as his starting defender. But soon, the Frenchman began to spend more time on the bench. Some of the comments from the manager during this challenging period may have hit the Frenchman hard, with speculation rising in the background about a departure.

Recent links to Real Madrid will not surprise Manchester United fans, as a report in The Athletic claimed the Frenchman’s contract expires in 2024. He has since revived some reputation and starred in the goalless draw with Liverpool but missed the defeat to West Ham United altogether.

There are doubts about his long-term stay at Manchester United, although things could change in the coming weeks. As for the Real Madrid links, they did look weak, as the Spanish giants may not need their former player anymore as they have already moved on in a different direction.
