Barcelona defender Ronald Araujo is reportedly attracted to the idea of playing in the Premier League amid interest from Manchester United.
According to a report by AS, Ronald Araujo is the subject of interest from Manchester United. The Uruguayan international has an attraction towards the Premier League, handing a boost to the Red Devils. But a move away from Barcelona in the 2024 summer transfer window appears unlikely.
The Rise of Ronald Araujo:
Ronald Araujo has come leaps and bounds since joining Barcelona from Boston River in August 2018. The 24-year-old took some time to get going at the Catalan club but has become a mainstay at the back in the last few seasons. Meanwhile, he has also become a pivotal figure for his national team.
The Uruguayan international has turned out 129 times thus far for Barcelona, chipping in with eight goals and three assists. Meanwhile, Araujo’s progress has not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of several high-profile clubs. Many Premier League bigwigs are keen on signing him, including Manchester United.
Manchester United Keen On Ronald Araujo
Manchester United’s interest in Ronald Araujo stems from the uncertainties surrounding the futures of Raphael Varane and Harry Maguire. Varane, in particular, seems set to leave Manchester United in the 2024 summer transfer window.
So, with Maguire on the wrong side of 30 and Victor Lindelof not being good enough to be the undisputed first-choice centre-back, Manchester United can do with a top-class right-footed central defender. Ronald Araujo has thus emerged as a viable target for the Premier League heavyweights. But Barcelona will unlikely entertain any offers for the 24-year-old defensive mainstay.
Recent reports have claimed that Barcelona will look to open talks with Araujo over a new long-term contract. While his current deal still has over 30 months to run out, Barcelona’s desire to secure his future makes sense. Meanwhile, AS has claimed that the Uruguayan international is attracted by the idea of playing in the Premier League.
That does not necessarily mean he will leave Barcelona for greener pastures in the Premier League. But it will hand Manchester United a boost as they look to bring him to Old Trafford. However, the 24-year-old will unlikely leave Barcelona anytime soon.
