Newcastle United set to miss out on Aaron Ramsdale

Newcastle United could miss out on Aaron Ramsdale in January, with Arsenal reportedly not ready to sell him to a direct rival.

According to Football Insider, Aaron Ramsdale may not move to Newcastle United in January, as Arsenal are unwilling to sell him to a direct rival. The 25-year-old goalkeeper has fallen out of favour under Mikel Arteta, but there are complications about him leaving the club next month.

Aaron Ramsdale has been Arsenal’s man in the media stories following his demotion from the squad. The 25-year-old Arsenal star has featured once in the last 11 Premier League games, as Mikel Arteta prefers summer loanee David Raya as his No.1 choice.

Following months on the bench and not playing, it has given rise to speculation about his immediate future at the club. A host of clubs have seen mentions in reports linking them to a move for Ramsdale. Chelsea, Barcelona and Newcastle United are all in the mix, as per many stories, with the latter being the most logical ones in the race.

Following a severe injury to Magpies No.1 Nick Pope, Newcastle United saw links over a move for Ramsdale. The 25-year-old Arsenal star reportedly remains open to joining them if an offer comes through, but there are doubts about this transfer due to a number of logical reasons.

Arteta does not want to sell Ramsdale in January, as he prefers to have two good goalkeepers in his squad for the remainder of the campaign. Now, Arsenal have grown wary about letting a key player join a direct rival, although Newcastle United’s current position in the table suggests otherwise. The Gunners might see the Magpies rising in the future, and they could grow stronger with the 25-year-old in their ranks.

Alternative reports indicate the Magpies are keen on former Manchester United star David De Gea. The Spaniard remains open to joining Newcastle and will even come on a free transfer after being without a club since the summer.

Financially, Ramsdale will cost around £50 million or more as per valuations reported around the 25-year-old Arsenal star. Whether Newcastle has the funds to afford such a transfer remains the question, but undoubtedly, they will have to invest in a new keeper to have a strong season ahead.
