Arsenal have entered the race for the signatures of 27-year-old Aston Villa and West Ham United target Waldemar Anton.
According to a report by TEAMtalk, Arsenal could look for defensive reinforcement in the upcoming winter transfer window, and they have their eyes set on Waldemar Anton. The 27-year-old VfB Stuttgart defender has attracted a lot of attention of late, and the Gunners have also entered the race for his services.
After coming through the ranks and establishing himself as a regular at Hannover 96, Waldemar Anton joined Stuttgart in the summer of 2020. He has since gone from strength to strength and has featured in a total of 120 matches for the club.
The former German youth international has been a consistent performer for the Bundesliga outfit of late. In the ongoing season, he has not missed a single minute of Bundesliga action. The 27-year-old’s consistency has resulted in a lot of interest from across Europe.
Anton’s current deal with the Bundesliga club runs out in the summer of 2025. With just over 18 months left on his contract, talks over a new deal have started taking shape. But the player has been forced to think about his future given the amount of interest in his services.
Aston Villa and West Ham United are two clubs keen on having him in their ranks. Villa have been on fire in the ongoing season, and they are currently third on the points table and would love to finish inside the top four. Unai Emery feels they will need reinforcement to do so and he is keen on adding Anton to his backline.
The Hammers are also looking for defensive reinforcements and have been linked with players like Eiran Cashin. They have also shown interest in Waldemar Anton of late. West Ham do have enough depth in their defence, but David Moyes is still keen on having the 27-year-old in his ranks as he will bring in a lot of experience. His arrival will increase the competition for places.
While Aston Villa and West Ham are both keen, they will face competition from Arsenal, who have just entered the race for his signatures. The Gunners lack depth in defence, and it could hamper their title aspirations, as a result, they are looking to resolve the issue by signing Anton.
The injury to Takehiro Tomiyasu has forced Arsenal into the market for a new defender. With Jurrien Timber already out injured, they are looking to sign the Stuttgart skipper, who is versatile and can feature in the heart of the defence as well as a right back.
