Jota, who joined Al-Ittihad for £25 million this past summer, is keen on joining Tottenham Hotspur in the January transfer window.
According to a report by The Sun, Jota is the subject of interest from Tottenham Hotspur. The Portuguese winger joined Al-Ittihad in a deal worth £25 million this past summer. And he is keen on joining the North London club in the January transfer window. But Ange Postecoglou has still not zeroed in on the player as his top winter target.
Jota: An Alluring Move Gone Pear-Shaped
Jota has struggled to make his mark since joining Al-Ittihad from Celtic in a deal worth £25 million. The 24-year-old was one of the best players in the Scottish Premiership despite spending only two years in Scotland. But the lucratively-appealing move to the cash-rich Saudi Pro League has not worked out thus far.
The Portuguese winger has managed only 383 minutes of game time thus far across eight outings while scoring once. Jota’s failure to establish a foothold at Al-Ittihad has not dropped his stock. Several well-known Premier League clubs are keen on signing the out-of-favour winger.
Recent reports have also claimed that Celtic might look to secure Jota’s services in the January transfer window. But the player’s next destination might be Tottenham, with the North London club most seriously pursuing him ahead of this coming winter.
Jota and Ange Postecoglou to Reunite?
Tottenham’s interest in the 24-year-old Portuguese winger is understandable. Richarlison has been hit-and-miss since joining the North London club from Everton last year. In addition, the Brazilian international is currently on the sidelines due to a groin injury. Manor Solomon is also in the treatment room due to a season-ending knee injury.
Solomon and Richarlison’s absence has considerably reduced Ange Postecoglou’s options in the final third. Jota is thus a viable target for Tottenham, with the former Celtic winger keen on joining the North London club in the January transfer window. But Postecoglou is not is unsure about making his former charge his top winter target.
Nonetheless, Jota’s eagerness to join Tottenham comes as a boost for the North London club. It will be interesting to see if the Portuguese winger gets his desired winter move. Meanwhile, Al-Ittihad might demand more than the £25 million they paid this past summer if they sell the 24-year-old in January.
