David Moyes’s West Ham United are interested in acquiring the services of the 26-year-old Ajax winger Steven Bergwijn.
According to a report by TEAMtalk, West Ham United are keen on having Steven Bergwijn in their ranks. The Hammers are looking to reinforce their attack in the winter transfer window and have been linked with the 26-year-old Ajax winger of late.
Bergwijn came through the ranks at PSV and made quite a name for himself. His impressive performances earned him a move to Tottenham Hotspur in the winter of 2020. While he did put in a few impressive performances for Spurs, the 26-year-old did not reach the expected levels.
The North London club parted ways with the former PSV star in the summer of 2022. Eredivisie giants Ajax acquired his services for €31.25 million, a record fee in the Dutch top-flight. The Dutch international has featured in 61 matches since joining them and has contributed towards 31 goals.
Despite having a decent record, Bergwijn is often criticised by the Dutch media. And, of late the overall form of the team has also been a major reason for the criticism that the skipper has faced.
Ajax have managed to bounce back to an extent after a horror start to the new season, with Bergwijn contributing to nine goals. But, the 26-year-old is considering parting ways with the Dutch club in the upcoming transfer window. And, there is interest in his services from West Ham United.
Speaking about his future Bergwijn said, “You should ask my agent. Leaving Ajax in January? In football, you can never rule out anything. But I am happy here, I have my children and family here.”
Recently the former PSV forward has refused to rule out a move away from Ajax in January. And, West Ham have been lined with the Dutch international for a while now. The Hammers are looking for reinforcement as they look to push for the Europa League title and maintain their good start to the new Premier League star.
Meanwhile, Said Benrahma has been linked with a move away from West Ham. The Algerian winger could leave the club in the winter, and they will have to sign a new forward to ensure they have enough depth. Bergwijn has all the qualities needed to feature in Moyes’s setup and he will be an ideal replacement.
