Getafe want to acquire the services of 22-year-old Manchester United forward Mason Greenwood on a permanent basis.
According to a report by The Sun, Getafe are keen on having Mason Greenwood in their ranks beyond the ongoing season. The 22-year-old Manchester United forward is on loan at the Spanish club as he looks to rebuild his career and they are looking to sign him on a permanent basis.
Greenwood came up the ranks at United. He went straight from their Under-18 setup to the first team in the summer of 2019. He went from strength to strength over the next few seasons and was regarded as one of the best young talents in the world.
But, his progress was halted as the England international found himself surrounded with serious allegations. He denied those allegations and charges against him were later dropped. But, he did end up missing more than a year of footballing action.
United were not ready to re-instate him in their team and they decided to send him out on loan in the summer. On the transfer deadline, Getafe managed to land him on a season-long loan. The 22-year-old has featured in a total of 10 matches for the Spanish club and has contributed towards six goals.
Greenwood is slowly getting back to his best and Getafe feel he could be a great addition to their team in the long run. As a result, they are looking to convince the player that his future lies in Spain. They are even trying to meet the United officials as they look to propose a permanent deal for the England international.
While the 22-year-old’s contract with the English club runs until the summer of 2025, Getafe feel they can prise him away from Manchester. The Spanish club feel their offer could be attractive to United as it will help them get Greenwood off their wage bill.
If they fail to convince United for a permanent deal, the Spanish club will look to bring him back on loan. Meanwhile, United could accept a permanent transfer as they could face a massive backlash from fans if they try to reinstate him in their first team in the near future.
