Manchester United are reportedly keen on signing 24-year-old French international Youssouf Fofana as AS Monaco.
A report from 90min has claimed that Manchester United have now joined Arsenal and Liverpool in the race to sign 24-year-old French international Youssouf Fofana.
The 24-year-old has been a key player for AS Monaco, impressing with his performances this season. The midfielder has three assists across all competitions and he is versatile enough to operate as a defensive midfielder as well as a central midfielder.
The French international is nearing the end of his contract at the Ligue 1 club. But AS Monaco are likely to trigger an automatic extension for a further year. Apparently, Manchester United are looking to bring in a quality long-term replacement for Casemiro, and the Frenchman has been identified as a target.
It will be interesting to see if Manchester United decide to make a move for him during the January transfer window. Fofana’s contract situation means that he might be available for a reasonable price in the coming months. The opportunity to play for one of the biggest clubs in the world will be hard to turn down for the player as well.
That 24-year-old has shown his quality in Ligue 1, and he will be tempted to join the Premier League if there is an opportunity on the table. Meanwhile, Arsenal could certainly use a quality young defensive midfielder like him. They will need to replace Thomas Partey in the near future. The Ghana international is keen on leaving the club and he will have to be replaced adequately.
Fofana would be an excellent acquisition for Arsenal, and he could form a solid partnership with Declan Rice. Arsenal were linked with him in the summer transfer window as well. As far as Liverpool are concerned, they are yet to replace Fabinho and could use someone like Fofana in their midfield.
