Arsenal, Tottenham scout Lucas Gourna-Douath

Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly interested in 20-year-old Red Bull Salzburg midfielder Lucas Gourna-Douath.

A report from 90min has claimed that Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur recently ran the rule over 20-year-old French youth international Lucas Gourna-Douath, watching him in action for Red Bull Salzburg against WSG Tirol.

Gourna-Douath has established himself as an important first-team player for Red Bull Salzburg, and it will be interesting to see if the Austrian outfit are prepared to cash in on him. The 20-year-old has a contract with them until the summer of 2027, and they will not be under pressure to sanction his departure.

So, the likes of Arsenal and Tottenham might have to pay a premium for him. The midfielder has picked up two assists across all competitions this season, and he is capable of operating as a defensive midfielder as well as a central midfielder.

The highly-rated defensive midfielder will add defensive cover and physicality to the Arsenal midfield if he joins the club. He could be the ideal replacement for Thomas Partey at the heart of their midfield. The 20-year-old is a prodigious talent with a big future ahead of him, and Mikel Arteta could nurture him into a top-class midfielder.

The Arsenal manager has done well to nurture young players since joining the North London club, and he could help the Frenchman fulfill his potential as well. A move to Arsenal would certainly be an exciting proposition for the young midfielder, and it remains to be seen whether the Gunners can agree on a fee with Red Bull Salzburg first.

Similarly, Tottenham Hotspur need to add a quality defensive midfielder as well. Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg has been linked with a move away from the club in recent months, and Spurs will have to bring in a quality replacement.

The 20-year-old Red Bull Salzburg midfielder certainly fits the profile, and his arrival will allow Ange Postecoglou to rotate players like Yves Bissouma and Pape Matar Sarr. There is no doubt that the French youth international is good enough to play for both Premier League clubs, and it will be interesting to see where he ends up.
