Real Madrid want €70 million to part ways with Rodrygo Goes

Real Madrid will reportedly demand around €70 million to part ways with struggling 22-year-old attacking mainstay Rodrygo Goes.

According to a report by Spanish outlet Defensa Central, Rodrygo Goes might not be at Real Madrid beyond the 2023/24 season. The Merengues are considering cashing in on the struggling 22-year-old in the 2024 summer transfer window. And they will demand around €70 million to part ways with him next year.

Rodrygo Goes has failed to fulfill his potential since joining Real Madrid from Santos FC four years ago. The Brazilian international spent most of his formative years in his homeland and garnered a reputation of being the next big thing in his nation. Pundits even suggested that he would usurp Vinicius Junior’s levels at Real Madrid.

But Rodrygo’s performance levels have not risen nearly as much as he would have liked. The 22-year-old has blown hot and cold in the last four seasons, not making a case to be an undisputed first-choice starter for Real Madrid. The onus on him has increased this term following the departure of Karim Benzema.

Vinicius Junior, Jude Bellingham, and Rodrygo have been the first-choice attackers for Real Madrid. But while Bellingham has been sensational and delivered the goods in El Clasico, Vinicius and Rodrygo have been sub-par. The former still has a body of work to fall back on and excuse him for a slow start to the season.

But his compatriot does not have that. So, a return of two goals and one assist in 14 appearances leaves much to be desired. In addition, it is hardly surprising that Carlo Ancelotti has even dropped him from the starting lineup once. Now, a departure in the 2024 summer transfer window might be on the cards.

The report claims that Real Madrid will demand around €70 million to offload Rodrygo, making a significant profit from his sale. Los Blancos’ stance might be surprising. But with Endrick set to arrive next year and Kylian Mbappe being their priority target, the Merengues might need to make room in the attack.

Meanwhile, Rodrygo might not have any shortage of suitors, with recent reports linking him with Liverpool. The Reds view him as one of the options to replace Mohamed Salah if he departs from Anfield next year. But it is unclear if Liverpool or any other suitor will meet Real Madrid’s valuation of €70 million to land the struggling 22-year-old.
