Manchester United will reportedly compete with Paris Saint-Germain in the race to sign 24-year-old AC Milan talisman Rafael Leao.
According to a report by Italian outlet Calciomercato, Rafael Leao is the subject of interest from Manchester United. AC Milan will face a tough battle to keep hold of the former Serie A MVP. Meanwhile, the 24-year-old is also a target for Ligue 1 champions Paris Saint-Germain.
Rafael Leao has established himself as one of the best players in Serie A since joining AC Milan from LOSC Lille. The Portuguese international encountered some teething problems at San Siro. But he came into his own after his debut season, becoming a talismanic figure for the Rossoneri.
The 24-year-old was instrumental as AC Milan won the Scudetto in the 2021/22 season. Leao also won the Serie A MVP for his exploits in the title-winning campaign. Meanwhile, he has been hit-and-miss this term, managing only three goals and four assists in 13 appearances thus far. But the player’s stock remains high.
Widespread reports have linked Leao with European bigwigs like Paris Saint-Germain and Real Madrid. Premier League heavyweights are also keen on signing the former Sporting CP attacker, including Liverpool. But those clubs now face stiff competition from Manchester United.
Manchester United’s interest in Leao is surprising, considering Marcus Rashford is the first-choice left-winger. While the English international has not been at his best this term, his position is not under threat. So, it is unclear why Manchester United might be interested in securing Leao’s services next year.
The 24-year-old former Serie A MVP prefers to play on the left flank and does not play as well on the right wing. So, it is unclear how the Portuguese international will fit into the scheme of things at Manchester United. Nonetheless, the Red Devils are interested in beating PSG and others to his signature.

While prising Leao away from AC Milan might not be difficult, the absence of the UEFA Champions League will likely hurt. The Red Devils have made a horrendous start to the 2023/24 season, sitting in the eighth spot on the table. So, Manchester United must step up to tempt the 24-year-old to swap San Siro for Old Trafford.
