Newcastle United could terminate Sandro Tonali’s contract if the authorities found him guilty of illegal betting allegations.
According to Corriere della Sera via Sport Witness, Newcastle United could punish Sandro Tonali. If the authorities find the 23-year-old summer signing guilty of illegal betting allegations, that is. The Magpies could terminate his long-term contract if his verdict results in a lengthy ban.
Another day, another Italian scandal, only this time, it’s key national team players involved in illegal betting allegations. Sandro Tonali, Nicolo Fagioli and Nicolo Zaniolo became involved in the latest controversy. The players stand accused of illegal betting.
Police at Italy’s training camp questioned the three players mentioned. Several players had their phones and tablets seized by the authorities, including Tonali’s. Newcastle United’s 23-year-old summer signing only made the move a few months back.
Following the involvement of the Police, the accused players left the Italian camp. Tonali headed to Milan to seek legal advice from his lawyers. National team manager Luciano Spalletti insisted that letting the players leave the camp was correct. He also suggested it was right to continue the investigation.

Spalletti said, “We will support them but it’s correct to let them leave our camp after speaking to police”. “If they have committed irregularities, it is absolutely right to proceed with the investigation”.
Following the controversy, all eyes will focus on Newcastle United and their actions over the midfielder. If the authorities find Tonali guilty of this betting allegation, he could face a lengthy three-year ban from football.
The report suggests Newcastle United could punish the 23-year-old summer signing. If found guilty, the Magpies could terminate his long-term deal at St James Park or suspend his salary until he serves the ban mentioned above.
The report further states that Newcastle United might not take either action as they have invested heavily in the midfielder. The 23-year-old summer signing cost them a lot, so the club might wait until a firm verdict comes out.
Following reports that Newcastle considered Lucas Paqueta before Tonali, they might have found themselves in a similar boat with the Brazilian. The West Ham star stands accused in another betting breach allegation.
As for Tonali, it’s too early to understand the insights of this case. With the suggestions of three-year bans, it does sound severe in the background. If he is guilty of those accusations, it can seriously hamper his promising career, and the same goes for Zaniolo or Fagioli.
