Tottenham Hotspur are looking to bring in a quality attacker during the January transfer window and have identified Jota as a target.
According to Caught Offside, Jota is under consideration, and it remains to be seen whether Tottenham can agree on a deal to sign him. The winger joined Saudi Arabian club Al-Itthad in a £25 million deal only two months ago. But he has been sidelined by manager Nuno Espirito Santo.
The opportunity to join the Premier League club will be an exciting option for Jota, and he will be keen on ending his Saudi Arabian nightmare. The 24-year-old Portuguese winger can operate on either flank, and he will add goals and creativity to the Tottenham attack.
Given his situation at the Saudi Arabian club, he could be available for a reasonable price as well. So far, he has played just 133 minutes for his new club and scored once. He will look to play regularly at this stage of his career. He joined the Saudi Pro League club for £25 million and they could demand a similar fee for him.
Jota had an exceptional 2022/23 campaign with Celtic, scoring 15 goals and picking up 12 versus across all competitions. Tottenham can certainly use a goalscoring winger for their left flank and Jota would be a quality acquisition.
Tottenham attacker Richarlison has not been able to live up to the expectations, and the North London outfit will need to bring in an upgrade. Jota could be his replacement in the starting lineup.
Son Heung-min has been leading the line after the departure of Harry Kane, and Spurs have signed Brennan Johnson for the right flank. James Maddison is expected to occupy the central attacking midfield role, and the arrival of the former Celtic star will complete the Tottenham frontline, with Dejan Kulusevski also competing for the right-wing berth.
The 24-year-old has worked with Ange Postecoglou during their time together at Celtic, and a reunion could be exciting for all parties. The Tottenham manager knows all about the 24-year-old and he could bring out the best in the player. Meanwhile, playing under the Australian once again will help the Portuguese attacker get his career back on track.
It will be interesting to see if Tottenham decide to submit a concrete proposal to sign the player when the transfer window reopens in January. Tottenham have started the season well, and they are currently on top of the league table. They will be hoping to challenge for the league title and bringing in quality additions in January could help them perform at a high level.
