Tottenham Hotspur are ready to offload their 29-year-old utility man Eric Dier in the upcoming winter transfer window.
According to a report by Football Insider, Tottenham Hotspur are ready to part ways with Eric Dier. The 29-year-old defender is not a part of their new manager Ange Postecoglou’s plans, as a result, they are looking to cash in on him in January.
Dier joined Spurs back in the summer of 2014 after coming through the ranks at Sporting CP. Over the years, he has been used in different positions and till the end of last season, he was an integral part of their first team. However, things have changed a lot since the arrival of the Australian boss.
Last season, the England international was involved in 42 matches. He was ever-present in their backline and was even a part of the team’s leadership group. But, under Postecoglou he has gone way down the pecking order. The 29-year-old is yet to feature for the London club in the ongoing season.
Tottenham were not at their best defensively last season. As a result, Postecoglou has made a few changes to the backline. He prefers having Cristian Romero and summer signing Micky van de Ven in the heart of the defence. And on top of that, the Australian boss is now looking to sign another centre-back in the winter window and Dier has no place in his first team.
Spurs were ready to negotiate his departure in the summer and there were a few clubs interested but the player decided to stay. He wanted to play out the final year of his contract and leave as a free agent next summer.
But, since he is not even in consideration under the new boss, the 29-year-old is ready to part ways in the winter. And, with his contract running out Spurs are looking to cash in on him in January.
Meanwhile, Italian giants Roma are interested in the services of Dier. Jose Mourinho is a big admirer of the 29-year-old having worked with him during his day at Spurs. The Portuguese manager now wants him at Roma and the club are expected to push for him in the winter. According to serval reports, the player is open to the idea of reuniting with the former Tottenham boss.
