Manchester United have intensified their efforts to sign 22-year-old Sporting CP defender Goncalo Inacio in January.
According to a report by The Sun, Manchester United want to acquire the services of Goncalo Inacio in the January transfer window. The Red Devils are keen on having the 22-year-old, who has a €60 million release clause in his Sporting CP contract, in their ranks and have intensified their efforts to land him at Old Trafford.
Inacio has come through the ranks at Sporting CP and he made it to their first team back in 2020. The 22-year-old already has 130 appearances for the Portuguese club and has even contributed towards 19 goals.
The Sporting CP graduate has also featured for the Portuguese national team in the recent past. As far as the ongoing season is concerned, he has been involved in eight matches and has put in some incredible shifts.
His performances in the recent past have not gone unnoticed, and there are quite a few clubs keen on having him in their ranks. Manchester United are one of the clubs that have been linked with the 22-year-old for a while now.
The Red Devils have been following him for a long time now. And, they have decided to make a move for his services in January. Manchester United have struggled defensively since the start of the summer. Quite a few of their defenders have suffered with injuries and their poor start to the season has forced the under-pressure Erik ten Hag to look for a new central defender.
Lisandro Martinez is out injured for at least the next three months while Raphael Varane’s fitness has been a concern ever since he joined the club. On top of that, Harry Maguie has fallen way done the pecking order. As a result, ten Hag is keen on having a new centre-back. He wants to bring Inacio to the club in the winter transfer window.
The Red Devils are desperate to have the Portuguese international in their ranks and have sent scouts to watch him in action. The Manchester-based club have ordered their scout to watch the 22-year-old in action at least three times a month until the turn of the year when they will push for his services.
Inacio did pen down a new deal a few months back but it has a release clause worth €60 million which the Red Devils are ready to trigger. The 22-year-old is a left-footed ball-playing centre-half and Ten Hag feels he could be an ideal replacement for Martinez.
