29-year-old Tottenham Hotspur utility man Eric Dier is ready to reunite with his former boss Jose Mourinho at AS Roma.
According to a report by Football Insider, Eric Dier is ready to part ways with Tottenham Hotspur and join AS Roma in the upcoming transfer window. The 29-year-old is no longer an important part of Spurs’ first team setup and he is open to the idea of reuniting with Jose Mourinho having worked under him in the recent past.
Dier joined the London club back in the summer of 2014 after coming through the ranks at Sporting CP. He went from strength to strength after joining the English club and over the past few seasons, he has been one of the mainstays of their team.
The 29-year-old was an integral part of their team last season as he featured in a total of 42 matches and was on the pitch for over 3,600 minutes. Dier was even a part of their leadership group last season but everything has changed after the arrival of Ange Postecoglou.
The Australian manager is not a big fan of Dier and doesn’t want to rely on him. As a result, the 29-year-old has gone way down the pecking order. While the former Sporting CP player is versatile and can feature as a central midfielder as well as a centre-back, he still has no place in Postecoglou’s plans.
He is surplus to requirements and they are ready to negotiate his departure. The London club were ready to offload him in the summer but they could manage to strike a deal. According to reports, Dier chose to remain at the club.
The initial idea was to run down his contract and then leave as a free agent. But, things have changed a lot. He is yet to feature in a match for the London club this season and things are unlikely to change. As a result, Dier is considering parting ways with the club in the winter.
Roma are one of the clubs that have been linked with the 29-year-old of late. Their manager Mourinho has worked with Dier in the past and he believes the England international’s versatility could help the Italian club big time. As a result, they are considering pushing for him in the upcoming transfer window.
According to the report, if the interest materialises and Roma end up striking a deal with Spurs, the 29-year-old is ready to reunite with Mourinho.
