Newcastle United failed in their pursuit of Luka Vuskovic

Newcastle United have failed to acquire the services of 16-year-old Luka Vuskovic who has decided to join Tottenham Hotspur.

According to a report by Football Insider, Newcastle United wanted to acquire Luka Vuskovic’s services but failed to strike a deal with the Croatian club Hajduk Split. The teenage sensation has ended up joining Tottenham Hotspur who have been interested in him for a while now.

Vuskovic has come through the ranks at the Croatian club. The 16-year-old was promoted to their first team earlier this year. He has featured in a total of 11 matches for the senior team and has even contributed with a goal.

His impressive performances didn’t go unnoticed and there has been a lot of interest in his services for a while now. Despite having three years left on his deal, he was expected to be on the move in the near future. And, the Croatia Under-17 star has agreed terms with Tottenham. Spurs will pay £8.7 million to Split for Vuskovic. He is expected to join the club in the summer of 2025 when he turns 18 years old.

The London club struggled defensively last season and their new boss Ange Postecoglou is keen on ensuring they have enough defensive depth.

The Australian boss has already signed a few defensive players in order to reinforce Tottenham’s defence. And, he has also added the 16-year-old who could potentially help them in the long run.

Meanwhile, Newcastle United were keen on having Vuskovic in their ranks. The Magpies wanted to sign the teenage sensation even before Spurs stuck a deal for his services. However, they failed to get it done in time.

They have signed some quality young players post their takeover. Eddie Howe’s men have added Garang Kuol and Yankuba Minteh to their ranks but they failed to sign the Croatian youth international.

Vuskovic has already penned down a five-year deal with the London club that will run until the summer of 2030. They have managed to sign a quality youngster who has gone from strength to strength in the recent past and is expected to be the next big thing.
