Barcelona might look to complete a Bosman move for 26-year-old Leicester City midfielder powerhouse in next summer’s transfer window.
According to a report by Caught Offside, Wilfred Ndidi is the subject of interest from Barcelona. The Catalan giants are scouring the market for a holding midfielder heading into the 2024 summer transfer window. And the Leicester City powerhouse has emerged as one of their targets for next year.
Wilfred Ndidi has represented very few clubs during his professional career, excelling for every team thus far. The Nigerian international spent his formative years in his homeland before graduating from the Nath Boys Academy. His first foray in Europe came with KRC Genk, where he spent two years.
The 26-year-old midfield powerhouse joined Leicester City in January 2017 and has come leaps and bounds in the last six and a half years. Ndidi was one of the best midfielders in the Premier League before Leicester’s relegation to the EFL Championship. But he remained with the Foxes beyond the summer transfer window, even though reports linked him with clubs like Liverpool.
The player has done well thus far this season, chipping in with three goals and one assist in ten appearances. But Ndidi’s contract situation has left Leicester City in a spot of bother, as he is in the final months of his deal. Such a situation has captured the attention of several high-profile clubs, including Barcelona.
The Blaugrana will likely enter the market for a holding midfielder next year despite signing two midfielders this summer. But it is worth noting that Oriol Romeu and Ilkay Gundogan are on the wrong side of 30. So, the duo will only be short-term solutions for Barcelona.
Several candidates, including Arthur Vermeeren, have thus emerged on Barcelona’s radar. But Wilfred Ndidi is also a viable target for the reigning La Liga champions. In addition, the possibility of signing a powerhouse midfielder for free will appeal to Barcelona.
