Ange Postecoglou’s Tottenham Hotspur are looking to push for the services of the 24-year-old Al-Ittihad winger Jota.
According to a report by Daily Mirror, Tottenham Hotspur are interested in acquiring the services of Jota. Spurs’ new boss Ange Postecoglou has worked with the 24-year-old during his time at Celtic and would love to have him at his disposal at the North London club.
Jota came through the ranks at Benfica and joined Celtic back in the summer of 2021. He initially joined them on a season-long loan deal before the move was made permanent in the following summer.
The Portuguese forward went from strength to strength while playing for the Scottish club and helped them win numerous titles. The 24-year-old was an integral part of the club, and his performances did not go unnoticed.
There was a lot of interest from clubs across Europe, but he ended up joining Saudi Arabian club Al-Ittihad. The Saudi Pro League clubs were focused on signing top European players throughout the window and they ended up signing Jota for a fee of £25 million.
While he was expected to have an important role at the club, the 24-year-old has not been able to settle in, with his situation alerting Tottenham in the summer. Al-Ittihad no longer had him in their plans for the league despite having spent a decent amount on signing him.
Saudi Pro League clubs are allowed to have eight overseas players in their squad. But, they ended up signing nine and Jota did not get a spot in their league squad. While he can still feature in continental tournaments, the 24-year-old is not happy with the situation.
He wanted his contract at the club to be terminated. But, Nuno Espirito Santo is keen on having him in his ranks and wants to use him in the AFC Champions League. However, the player is expected to push for a move away from the club.
Tottenham Hotspur remain keen on having him in their ranks. Ange Postecoglou has worked with Jota at Celtic and he believes the 24-year-old could be a great addition to their ranks. Spurs have recently suffered a huge blow as Ivan Perisic is all set to be out injured for a long while. His absence leaves a huge void and they want to fill it by signing Jota.
With Son Heung-min used in a more central role under the Australian boss, they need a reliable man out wide on the left. And, Postecoglou believes the Al-Ittihad striker can do the job for his team. It will be interesting to see if the 24-year-old leaves the Saudi Pro League club in January.
