Mohamed Salah has been linked with a move away from Liverpool in recent months, with Saudi Arabian clubs keen.
Saudi Arabian clubs were keen on signing Mohamed Salah during the summer transfer window. But Liverpool managed to hold on. However, Ben Jacobs has revealed to Give Me Sport that the Reds are aware of the fact that their talisman is likely to leave next summer, especially because of his contract situation.
“Liverpool are aware that Salah is likely to leave in 2024, even though his contract expires in 2025. And whereas they were able to bat off a £150 million package from Al-Ittihad this summer, it’s going to be a lot harder to turn down good money if Salah wants the move in a year’s time, because they’ll only be a year left on the contract.”
“If Salah commits to Liverpool for this year and then says he wants to go then Liverpool may have to start planning for life without Salah. That kind of money could be very important to Liverpool over a number of windows as well. And there’s absolutely no doubt that the Saudi side is going to return for Salah.”
The Egyptian international has a contract with Liverpool until the summer of 2025, and the Reds will not want to lose him as a free agent. It makes sense for them to sell the player next summer so that they can recoup a substantial amount of money for him. Unless the Egyptian signs a new contract with Liverpool, it is highly unlikely that he will stay at Anfield beyond next summer.
Jacobs believes that Liverpool have already started planning for life after the Egyptian, and it remains to be seen whether they can bring in the right replacements. Liverpool might need to invest in multiple players in order to replace the Egyptian’s output.
The 31-year-old is a proven goalscorer in the Premier League and he is an elite creator as well. The Egyptian has broken multiple sports scoring records since his return to the Premier League with Liverpool, and his creativity numbers are also off the charts.
There is no doubt that the Egyptian is a world-class player, and replacing him will be a difficult task for any club. The Reds should look to bring in a goalscoring winger and add some creativity to the side as well if the Egyptian moves on next summer.
