Zinedine Zidane reportedly wanted Real Madrid to sign 21-year-old Manchester City forward Jeremy Doku two years ago.
According to a report by Defensa Central, Zinedine Zidane was keen on having Jeremy Doku in his ranks at Real Madrid back in the day. The former Los Blancos manager presented the club with the option to sign the 21-year-old sensation two years back. However, the Spanish giants failed to land him at the club, and he has now joined Premier League giants Manchester City.
Doku came through the ranks at RSC Anderlecht before joining Stade Rennais in 2020. He went from strength to strength after joining the French club. His exceptional performances attracted a lot of attention, and there were quite a few clubs keen on having him in their ranks.
Many clubs tried to acquire his services over the past few windows but they failed to strike a deal with the French club. Manchester City went hard for his services in the summer, and they managed to sign him for a fee of €65 million.
While the 21-year-old has finally left Rennais for Manchester City, he could have joined Real Madrid back in the day. When Zidane was in charge of the club two years back, he presented the club with the idea of signing the Belgian international.
The French manager kept a close eye on the players in Ligue 1, and he acted as a scout for the Spanish giants. Zidane often suggested players to the Real Madrid board of directors. Two years back, the former Los Blancos manager wanted them to sign Doku while he was at Stade Rennais.
But, they failed to strike a deal with the French club as they wanted a huge transfer fee for the Belgian sensation. Real Madrid had already suffered a huge blow by spending big on Luka Jovic. As a result, they were quite cautious with their business in the transfer market. While they wanted to land him, Florentino Pérez decided against it because of the huge fee that was involved.
