Real Madrid retain Denzel Dumfries interest

Real Madrid might look to sign Denzel Dumfries, whose price tag is €50 million, from Serie A giants Inter Milan next year.

According to a report by Spanish outlet Fichajes, Denzel Dumfries is the subject of interest from Real Madrid. The Merengues are scouring the market for a long-term successor to long-serving first-choice right-back Dani Carvajal. Meanwhile, Inter Milan will demand €50 million to part ways with the Dutchman.

Denzel Dumfries has made considerable progress since joining Inter Milan from PSV Eindhoven two years ago. The 27-year-old was one of the best right-backs in the world at the time and has been among the most elite in his position in Serie A. In addition, he has been a mainstay for his national side.

The Dutch full-back has excelled as a wing-back during his stint with Inter Milan, with Antonio Conte and Simone Inzaghi both preferring such a system. Meanwhile, Dumfries has started the 2023/24 season strongly, providing two assists while scoring once in four outings. And his progress has captured the attention of Real Madrid.

Dumfries has been on Real Madrid’s radar for a long time. And the continued interest in the former PSV Eindhoven defender is understandable, considering Dani Carvajal is well into his thirties. In addition, Lucas Vazquez, also on the wrong side of 30, has not been consistent in the last two seasons.

So, it behoves Real Madrid to scour the market for a long-term right-back solution. Several candidates, including Reece James, have thus emerged on Los Blancos’ radar as they look to lay down a succession plan for Carvajal. And Dumfries is also a viable target for the Spanish outfit.

The 27-year-old is at the peak of his powers and delivering consistent results in the final third. So, he can be a seamless addition to the Real Madrid squad. Meanwhile, Inter Milan will demand €50 million to part ways with Dumfries, which should not be a high asking price for Real Madrid.
