Manchester United are keen on Brighton’s breakout star, Evan Ferguson, as they could plan on spending big on another striker.
According to the Daily Mail, Manchester United are interested in a move for Evan Ferguson next summer. The Red Devils are keen on the Brighton breakout star despite spending a significant fee on another striker but will face plenty of competition for the Irish international.
Evan Ferguson made plenty of headlines before the international break with a stunning hattrick against Newcastle United. The 18-year-old had been knocking on Roberto De Zerbi’s door since the season started, and the Italian duly had his reward with that stellar performance.
Brighton have forged a reputation of being serious sellers in the last few years and took their game to another level in the previous window. Some of their sales truly shocked the Premier League, and they have more players in their stable for similar activity in the future.
Chief among those is Ferguson. Brighton already demands around £120 million for their 18-year-old Premier League breakout star. That price is the standard now for young players coming out of the Seagulls’ squad, and there’s considerable interest from top English suitors.
Manchester City are also keen to add him to their side, but they already have a similar striker in the mould of Erling Haaland. Hence, the possibility of the Irish star coming to the Etihad might hinge on the Norwegian departing, which may not happen after all.
Arsenal are also interested, which could make matters curious for Ferguson. The Gunners are building a super team under Mikel Arteta that harbours ambitions to win the Premier League and Champions League. Ferguson could take their attack to the next level, but now Manchester United are also reportedly keen to enter the chase.
The Red Devils are already planning their transfers for next summer and have started drawing up a shortlist of potential targets. Ferguson features there, and they might make a big offer to tempt Brighton to sell. However, whether they need him remains the question, considering they already spent big on a new striker.
Rasmus Hojlund arrived from Atalanta, and in a brief cameo against Arsenal, the Dane has already made an impression. The new Manchester United star’s profile has similarities to that of Ferguson, which conflicts with their interest in the Brighton star.
Modern teams do not have strikers of a similar profile, and considering Manchester United will have to pay over £100 million for Ferguson, he must start regularly. They may decide on the Irish star if Hojlund fails in his first season at Old Trafford.
