Newcastle United join Manchester United and Tottenham in the race to sign Ivan Toney

Newcastle United are all set to battle it out with Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur for the services of Ivan Toney.

According to a report by Football Transfers, Newcastle United are keen on having Ivan Toney in their ranks. The 27-year-old forward has proved himself in the English top flight and there are quite a few clubs interested in his services. The likes of Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur are also looking to land him at the club.

Toney has gone from strength to strength since joining Brentford in the summer of 2020. He has featured in 124 matches and has found the back of the net on 68 occasions. The 27-year-old has also contributed with 21 assists.

As far as the Premier League is concerned, Toney has 41 goal contributions in 68 games. The England international was on fire last season with 20 goals in the league. But, things have since gone downhill as the player has been banned from football.

Toney was found guilty of 232 breaches of gambling offences under FA rules. As a result, he was handed an eight-month. He will be back training with the Bees on September 17 but his ban will end on January 17.

While the player is not currently active, there still remains a lot of interest in his services. Some of the biggest clubs in England are after his signature. Newcastle United are one of the clubs who have just entered the race for his services.

The Magpies are looking to add more firepower to their attack. To be precise, Eddie Howe wants a striker who can guarantee 20-plus goals a season and Toney seems to be the right fit. Meanwhile, with Callum Wilson already 31 and his contract running out next summer, they might need a replacement soon.

While Newcastle now have the financial power to strike a deal with Brentford, they are not the only ones interested. Even Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur have been linked with the 27-year-old. And, they can surely challenge the Magpies to the very end.

Spurs recently parted ways with their record goal scorer Harry Kane. The London club sold their star striker to Bayern Munich and are expected to sign a new forward to fill those big boots in the upcoming windows. And, Toney is one of the names on their list.

Even United are looking to add another striker to the mix despite having already signed Rasmus Hojlund this summer. Erik ten Hag wants a more physical number nine and someone who can compete with the former Atalanta forward for a starting spot. And, the 27-year-old England international seems to be a perfect fit.
