La Liga champions Barcelona are reportedly tracking the progress of 20-year-old Slovenian striker Benjamin Sesko at Bundesliga club RB Leipzig.
According to Francesc Aguilar, Benjamin Sesko is the subject of interest from Barcelona. The Catalan giants have been keeping tabs on the highly-rated 20-year-old striker for a long time. And they have continued monitoring him since he joined Bundesliga club RB Leipzig this past summer.
Benjamin Sesko is one of the best young attacking prospects in the world. The Slovenian striker spent most of his formative years in his homeland, representing clubs like NK Krsko and NK Domzale. But he rose to prominence after moving to Red Bull Salzburg in July 2019.
The highly-rated 20-year-old spent two seasons with FC Liefering, essentially Red Bull Salzburg’s reserve team. And he became a regular for the Austrian giants after establishing a foothold in the first-team squad. But Sesko’s stint with Red Bull Salzburg ended this past summer, as he joined sister club RB Leipzig.
The youngster has taken no time to establish himself as one of the best young prospects in the Bundesliga. He has two goals in three appearances thus far, an impressive tally considering he has managed only 51 minutes of game time. And Sesko’s progress has captured the attention of several high-profile clubs, including Barcelona.
The Blaugrana had a busy summer transfer window, signing five players for barely any money. And they have seemingly started planning for 2024, identifying prospective targets for next year. Sesko has thus emerged as a viable candidate to bolster the Barcelona attack.
Robert Lewandowski remains the first-choice striker for Barcelona. But the veteran Polish striker is well into his thirties and approaching the final phase of his glittering career. So, it behoves Barcelona to lay down a succession plan for the former Bayern Munich talisman. Sesko has thus emerged as a viable target for the Blaugrana.
Barcelona might not be the only high-profile club monitoring Sesko’s progress. He has also attracted interest from Real Madrid, Bayern Munich, and Premier League outfits. So, he might be a popular figure in the market in the 2024 summer transfer window.
