Girona are all set to complete the signing of the 22-year-old Barcelona centre-back Eric Garcia on a season-long loan.
According to Fabrizio Romano, Barcelona’s Eric Garcia is all set to join Girona on a season-long loan. The 22-year-old defender is unlikely to get much game time under Xavi during the 2023-24 season. As a result, the Catalan giants were looking to send him out on loan and they finally have an agreement in place with Girona.
Garcia started off at Barcelona’s famous youth academy, La Masia. But, back in 2018, he ended up joining Manchester City’s youth academy. He went through the ranks and made it to City’s first team in the summer of 2019.
Over the next two years, he featured in a total of 35 matches for Pep Guardiola’s team. The majority of his appearances came off the bench and despite his potential, the 22-year-old was way down the pecking order.
Garcia decided to return to Barcelona in the summer of 2019. The Spanish international made the move to his former club as he wanted to revive his career. He made a great start to his second stint at Camp Nou. But, with every passing year, his game time took a hit.
Of late he has gone way down the pecking order and is unlikely to get much game time at Barcelona. As a result, they decided to send him out on loan to get more minutes under his belt.
There are quite a few clubs interested in the Spanish international’s services but it seems he is all set to join Girona. The Girona-based club recently started holding talks to sign the 22-year-old. And, according to Romano, all parties involved have reached an agreement on a straightforward loan deal without any options to buy.
The Catalan giants have approved the transfer. The final details are being checked and post that the documents will be signed. His arrival will make Girona a much better outfit and their quest for a new central defender will also come to an end.
