Aston Villa have now completed a deal to sign Clement Lenglet on loan from Barcelona until the end of the season.
Aston Villa have confirmed the loan deal to sign Barcelona defender Clement Lenglet with a statement on their official website.
Lenglet was on loan at Tottenham Hotspur last season, and he did reasonably well for the North London outfit. The 28-year-old will look to impress in the Premier League this season with the West Midlands club, and it remains to be seen whether he can establish himself as a key player for Unai Emery.
The Frenchman was linked with a return to Tottenham this summer. But Aston Villa have done well to swoop in and secure his signature. Villa have looked vulnerable defensively this season, and signing the French international could prove to be a wise decision. The defender had fallen down the pecking order at Barcelona, and he needed to leave the club in order to play regularly.
The 28-year-old will be an inexpensive addition for Aston Villa, and the transfer could prove to be a major bargain if he manages to hit the ground running. As for Barcelona, they will be delighted to have gotten his wages off their books. The Catalan club are already going through financial difficulties, and the defender was on substantial wages.

If Lenglet can impress during his loan spell at the West Midlands club, it will not be surprising if Aston Villa try to sign him permanently at the end of the season. The 28-year-old is versatile enough to operate as a central defender as well as a full-back.
Furthermore, he is comfortable in a back four as well as a back three. His arrival will add some much-needed tactical flexibility to the side as well. Unai Emery has put together an impressive squad at Aston Villa, and the West Midlands club will be looking to push for a domestic trophy this season and Europa League qualification.
They will be competing in the UEFA Europa Conference League as well. Aston Villa will need more quality and depth in their squad in order to do well across multiple competitions, and they have had an impressive summer transfer window so far.
