Manchester United are interested in having 28-year-old Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg in their ranks.
According to a report by Football Transfers, Manchester United are looking to sign a new number six before the end of the transfer window and they have their eyes set on Tottenham Hotspur’s Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg.
Erik ten Hag is keen on having a new defensive midfielder in his ranks as he looks to set up a rock-solid double pivot in the centre of the park. The Dutch manager is keen on paring up Casemiro with another defensive midfielder as he looks to provide a strong base for his team.
The former Ajax boss’ first priority is to sign Fiorentina’s Sofyan Amrabat. The Moroccan international was on fire at the FIFA World Cup 2022 and post that there has been a lot of interest in his services.
United are one of the clubs keen on having the 27-year-old in their ranks. They already have an agreement in place with the payer on personal terms but they are yet to make an official bid for his services.
While their priority is to sign Amrabat, the club have also shortlisted Hojbjerg. The 28-year-old might not be an out-and-out defensive midfielder but he is capable enough to feature in such a role. He is physical and is exceptional off the ball as well as on it.
The Danish international will easily fit into Ten Hag’s system and could end up being a great signing. Meanwhile, the report suggests that the 28-year-old could be available for a fee of around £35 million.
At this point in time, the Manchester-based club cannot financially afford such a deal. And, their focus is also on signing a new full-back on loan post the injury of Luke Shaw.
The Red Devils have already raised a bit of funds thanks to the departure of Fred and Dean Henderson. But, they still do not have enough to secure all their targets. Meanwhile, they are still confident about offloading the likes of Harry Maguire, Scott McTominay, and Anthony Martial in the near future.
If they end up collecting sufficient funds, United could end up pushing for the 28-year-old Spurs midfielder who has been linked with a move away from the club throughout the transfer window. But, the London club have made it pretty clear that they will sell only on their own terms.
