Tottenham Hotspur are considering signing 24-year-old Portuguese forward Jota, who joined Al-Ittihad a few months back.
According to a report by 90min, Tottenham Hotspur have their eyes on Jota. The North London club are keen on bolstering their attack before the end of the transfer window and can push for the services of the 24-year-old, who had recently joined Saudi Pro League club Al-Ittihad.
Jota came through the ranks at Benfica and made it to their first team. He joined Celtic in the summer of 2021 on a season-long loan. After an impressive loan spell at the Scottish club, his transfer was made permanent in the summer of 2020.
The 24-year-old featured in a total of 83 matches for Celtic and was involved in a total of 54 goals. Last season, Jota turned out 43 times and ended up contributing towards 27 goals. After an impressive season with the Scottish club where he won three trophies, he was on the radar of quite a few clubs from all over the word.
Eventually, the Saudi Pro League club Al-Ittihad won the race for his signatures. They paid a significant amount in transfer fees as well as wages to land him at the club. The 24-year-old was Al-Ittihad’s club-record signing. But he could be on his way out just two months after joining them.
According to multiple reports, Jota has not settled in well at the Middle East club, and there are differences between him and his teammates. The fact that he has only been on the pitch for 55 minutes in their first three league matches suggests something is going on in the background.
The 24-year-old forward has been made available for a transfer by the Saudi Pro League Champions. And, Tottenham are one of the clubs keen on having him in their ranks. Ange Postecoglou has worked with Jota at Celtic.
He is well aware of the former Portuguese youth international’s strengths and weaknesses. The Australian manager believes he could help their cause. And, his versatility could be of great use to them. Meanwhile, reports suggest that Spurs will look to bring him in on a season long loan. While they are considering signing Jota, their priority at this point in time is to acquire the services of Brennan Johnson from Nottingham Forest.
