Manchester United considering Ryan Bertrand swoop

Manchester United are reportedly considering signing UEFA Champions League winner Ryan Bertrand in an emergency move this summer.

A report from Daily Express claims that Manchester United are looking to sign Ryan Bertrand in an emergency move after Luke Shaw picked up an injury. The 34-year-old defender is a free agent after leaving Leicester City in July.

The former Chelsea defender is currently a free agent after his contract expired with Leicester City, and he could prove to be a useful acquisition for Manchester United. Bertrand is a Champions League winner from his stint with the West London club.

Manchester United defenders Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia are currently out injured. So they need to bring in alternatives before the summer transfer window closes. The Red Devils will hope to challenge for the league title and do well across multiple competitions.

They are currently lacking in options when it comes to the left-back department. So someone like Bertrand could prove to be a useful short-term option. The 34-year-old has played for clubs like Chelsea in the past, and he won the Champions League title with them.

The experienced defender knows what it takes to play for a big club, and he could prove to be a quality addition for Manchester United in the short term. Apparently, the Red Devils have already held talks with the player’s representatives regarding a summer transfer. So it remains to be seen whether they can come to an agreement soon.

Bertrand is currently training with his former club Chelsea to keep up his fitness levels, and it remains to be seen whether the transfer to Manchester United goes through. The Red Devils are reportedly hoping to sign Jonny Evans on a short-term contract as well. Both players are currently free agents after their deals expired with Leicester City.

Ryan Bertrand has ample experience of the Premier League, and he should be able to settle in quickly and make an immediate impact at Old Trafford. Manchester United could sign him on a short-term contract until the end of the season. It would give them more options to work with defensively while the likes of Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia recover from their injuries.
