Manchester United are closing in on the signatures of the 25-year-old Fenerbahce shot-stopper Altay Bayindir.
According to Fabrizio Romano, Manchester United are interested in the services of Altay Bayindir and have started making moves to land him at the club. The 25-year-old Turkish shot-stopper has been on their radar of late as they look to secure a new backup goalkeeper.
Altay Bayindir came through the ranks at Ankaragücü before joining Fenerbahce in the summer of 2019. He has gone from strength to strength since making the move and has featured in a total of 145 matches. He has kept a clean sheet in 44 of those encounters.
Last season, the Turkish international was involved in a total of 40 matches and ended up keeping a clean sheet in 14 matches. He was one of the mainstays of his team and the 25-year-old has carried his form into the 2023-24 season having kept two clean sheets in four outings.
His consistent performances have attracted the attention of Manchester United who are looking for a new shot-stopper amidst uncertainty around Dean Henderson’s future.
The 26-year-old shot-stopper wants regular first-team football and he is unlikely to get enough minutes at the Manchester-based club who have recently signed Andre Onana to be their number one. As a result, he is considering parting ways with his childhood club.
Henderson has been linked with a move to Crystal Palace. And, according to reports, the Eagles are in pole position to land him at the club. The England international’s departure will leave United with only one backup option in Tom Heaton who is currently out injured.
As a result, they are in desperate need of a goalkeeper and have identified the 25-year-old Turkish international as a potential target. Reports earlier suggested that the Red Devils have started initial talks for the services of Bayindir who will cost only €7 million.
But, according to Romano, the 25-year-old has already completed a medical check with Manchester United in Athens. The Red Devils’ staff travelled to Athens to execute his medical and with the checks now complete, the Fenerbahce shot-stopper has returned to Istanbul.
While the medical has taken place, it is just the start and the next steps will follow soon. With United keen on having a new cover for Onana and Henderson leaving the club, the 25-year-old could be a Manchester United player in the near future.
