Manchester United and Liverpool have reportedly both lodged contract proposals for Ryan Gravenberch in a bid to lure the Dutchman away from Bayern Munich.
According to Daily Mirror, Bayern Munich midfielder Ryan Gravenberch is the subject of interest from both Liverpool and Manchester United. And the Premier League rivals are set to battle it out for his signature this summer.
The Netherlands international joined the Germans from Ajax in 2022, but the move has gone far from planned, with Gravenberch making just six starts during his first season at Allianz Arena. The 21-year-old has failed to nail down a spot under either Julian Nagelsmann or Thomas Tuchel.
That has compelled the Dutch maestro to consider his future at the reigning Bundesliga champions as he seeks more game-time, particularly with the European Championships next summer.
Both Manchester United and Liverpool have now submitted contract offers to Gravenberch in a bid to sign the midfielder, who is rated at £22 million by the Bavarians. While Bayern remain keen to keep him, they will listen to loan offers for the Dutchman to appease his wish to leave.
The former Ajax starlet remains highly rated. However, Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag keen on a reunion with Gravenberch, while there have been reports that Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool are ready to put forward an offer worth £20 million for the 21-year-old.
Gravenberch’s move to Bayern was agreed before Ten Hag was appointed at Manchester United. It is fair to assume that Ten Hag would have tried to sign him during his first summer at Old Trafford if he hadn’t already reached an agreement to move to the Bundesliga.
The Red Devils recently concluded the sale of Fred to Fenerbahce, while they are awaiting offers for out-of-favour Donny van de Beek, whose departure could pave the way for the arrival of a new defensive midfielder.
As such, Sofyan Amrabat has already agreed personal terms in principle over an Old Trafford switch. But United are struggling to find an agreement with Fiorentina over a transfer fee due to a combination of budget limitations, a lack of funds from sales, and a financial fair play strangle. Therefore, a loan move for Gravenberch could be attractive to Ten Hag’s side, albeit not a preference.
As for Liverpool, the Reds have been struggling to sign new midfielders over the last couple of weeks, with Jurgen Klopp’s side missing out on deals for Moises Caicedo and Romeo Lavia. They did make a breakthrough by landing Endo from Stuttgart. But there is an expectation that they will return to the market for one more deal, with Jurgen Klopp hoping to bring in another midfielder to help provide cover.

Endo is seen as a player who fits what Liverpool needed to help fill the No. 6 role. But long-time target Gravenberch is seen as a top talent who can further bolster Liverpool’s options in midfield. It remains to be seen whether or not Bayern will indeed end up selling, but Gravenberch could be one to watch for Liverpool and Manchester United fans as the transfer window draws to a close.
