Crystal Palace are reportedly considering a move for Leicester City shot-stopper Daniel Iversen as a potential replacement for Vicente Guaita.
That is according to a report from The Sun, which claims Crystal Palace have enquired about Leicester City’s Danish goalkeeper Daniel Iversen as they look to bolster their goalkeeping options before the transfer window slams shut.
Crystal Palace are in the market for a new goalkeeper to compete with current No. 1 Sam Johnstone for the starting spot in goal, with Vicente Guaita heading towards an exit. The Spaniard refused to play throughout pre-season, making his exit from South London look all but certain.
Guaita signed on a free transfer in the summer of 2018 and quickly established himself as a fan favourite at Selhurst Park, winning the Supporters’ Player of the Year in 2021. However, with his place in Roy Hodgson’s team no longer guaranteed, the 36-year-old is pushing for a move away from Selhurst Park and has been linked with a return to former club Getafe in La Liga.
The report has suggested that Crystal Palace are considering making an audacious move for Manchester United outcast Dean Henderson, who is available for transfer on a loan deal this summer and then on a permanent move at the end of the season.
Nottingham Forest were the favourites to sign him earlier in the summer. But they were concerned about conducting a premature medical that could aggravate his recovery from a thigh injury. Matt Turner has since joined the Tricky Trees from Arsenal, and it is unclear whether they will revive their pursuit, leaving the door open for Crystal Palace to enter the race.
That said, the Eagles would find it difficult to sign him on a permanent basis or agree to a hefty obligation. Palace have two loan spots available for new signings and are working to find an amicable solution. The Eagles are open to a Henderson transfer only under the right conditions and have shortlisted Leicester City’s Iversen alongside Southampton’s Alex McCarthy as cheaper alternatives.
Iversen, for one, is still relatively young for a goalkeeper. At 26 years old, he is ten years younger than his potential predecessor, Guaita. During his 2021/22 loan move to Preston North End, he demonstrated his shot-stopping talents. He played in all 46 Championship games, keeping 13 clean sheets, and scooped up the Player of the Season award.
Upon returning to Leicester, the Dane impressed in the Carabao Cup, while then-boss Brendan Rogers would later hand him his Premier League debut in March, the first of 12 top-flight games that he played last term.
But opportunities at the King Power have become scarce since Enzo Maresca arrived at the scene, with the Spanish boss favouring a more ball-playing option in Mads Hermansen. All in all, Iversen could be a fine addition to the Eagles’ squad and could come in to replace first-choice Johnstone when needed without deteriorating the quality between the sticks too significantly.
