Manchester City are leading the race to land Belgian winger Jeremy Doku

According to Sport Witness, Premier League champions Manchester City are leading the pack to land Belgian ace Jeremy Doku in the ongoing summer transfer window.

The winger is one of the best players in his position and at 21 is poised to develop into a reliable match-winner under the right manager. Pep Guardiola is arguably among the greatest to ever manage a club and could soon work his magic on Doku.

Manchester City won the treble last season but also lost key players Ilkay Gundogan and Riyad Mahrez this summer. The latter in particular was an excellent option off the bench and had helped swing the game in City’s favour on numerous occasions. It is imperative that Mahrez is replaced with a player of a similar calibre.

Manchester City will also be without Kevin de Bruyne, particularly impacting the service afforded to Erling Haaland. The onus is now on the recruitment team to ensure attacking reinforcements are made before the window slams shut.

Doku developed at the academies of four Belgian clubs before eventually making a mark at Anderlecht. He made his first-team debut at the age of 16 and has already good experience for someone his age. He moved to Stade Rennais in 2020 and has since established himself as one of the best players at the club.

Man City signing Doku could see them future-proof his role for the next few years. The 21-year-old is available for around €60m and the onus is now on City to present an official bid to Rennes. On paper, Doku can add much to the Premier League champions as they seek to usher in a new era of dominance after finally conquering Europe last season.

Fellow Premier League clubs Tottenham Hotspur and Chelsea are also keeping tabs on Doku but appear to be behind Manchester City in the pecking order. Once compared to Sadio Mane, the youngster is not short of options this summer and with time running out, the race to land him should get more interesting.

Having seen their interest in Lucas Paqueta hit a roadblock, Manchester City can now focus all their attention to seeking the deal for Doku over the line. It will come as a surprise should the summer window slam shut with the player since in Ligue 1.
