Crystal Palace are interested in acquiring the services of 29-year-old Tottenham Hotspur utility man Eric Dier.
According to a report by 90min, Crystal Palace are keen on having Eric Dier in their ranks before the end of the transfer window. The 29-year-old Tottenham Hotspur defender is not a part of Ange Postecoglou’s plans moving ahead, and they are ready to negotiate his departure.
Dier came through the ranks at Sporting CP before joining Tottenham Hotspur back in the summer of 2014. He has gone from strength to strength since joining the North London club, featuring in numerous positions over the years.
The 29-year-old was a defensive midfielder back in the day but he was used in multiple roles, thus becoming a utility man. Over the years, he has transitioned himself into a centre-back and has been doing a great job for both club and country. But his performance level dropped considerably in 2022/23.
Last season, Dier was involved in a total of 42 matches and was on the pitch for over 3,600 minutes. He even contributed towards three goals. The England international was a regular throughout, and he was expected to carry on at Spurs.
However, things have changed since the arrival of Ange Postecoglou. The Australian manager does not count on Dier, and he has fallen way down the pecking order. The 29-year-old did not even make it into their matchday squad for their opening fixture against Brentford.
Despite being fully fit, Postecoglou left him out of their squad and described it as a tactical decision. The reality is that Dier is not in his plans, and the Tottenham manager prefers the likes of Cristian Romero, Micky van de Ven, Davinson Sanchez and Ben Davies ahead of him.
With his contract running out in less than a year, Spurs are ready to offload him in the ongoing window. They do not want to risk losing out on him for free, and recent reports have linked him with an exit. Meanwhile, Crystal Palace are one of the clubs interested in the 29-year-old amongst others.

Roy Hodgson has already added Jefferson Lerma to his ranks and now wants to add Dier to the mix. He is looking for a double pivot in the centre of the park consisting of Lerma and Dier. But, it won’t be easy as the England international is on the radar of other European giants. With Tottenham Hotspur ready to sell, Crystal Palace do have a chance to land him at the club.
