Liverpool plotting move for Mike Maignan

Liverpool are considering making a surprise move for the 28-year-old AC Milan shot-stopper Mike Maignan.

According to the Calciomercatoweb, Liverpool are interested in the services of Mike Maignan. The 28-year-old shot-stopper is amongst the best in the world and the Merseyside club are considering making a surprise for his services.

Maignan came through the ranks at PSG before making the LOSC Lille. He went from strength to strength after making the move to Lille. On the back of his impressive performances, Milan decided to push for the 28-year-old and ended up securing his services in the summer of 2021.

Since joining the Italian giants, he featured in a total of 68 matches and has kept a clean sheet in 29 of those fixtures. He has been super impressive in goal and has been by far their best player over the last two seasons.

The French international has been the backbone of their team and he even helped them win the Serie A title in the recent past. While his contract with Milan runs until the summer of 2026, he could part ways with the club in the near future. However, a possible transfer would be worth millions.

There is interest from Bayern Munich in his services. The German giants are looking for a goalkeeper after having sold Yann Sommer to Inter Milan. Manuel Neuer is yet to recover and Maignan’s name is on Bayern’s list of potential targets. However, it will be interesting to see if they can afford to make a move given that they have already spent millions on Harry Kane.

Liverpool are also considering making a move for Maignan. Alisson Becker has been amongst the best goalkeepers in the world over the years and he has helped the Merseyside club win major titles. However, he has been on the decline of late. As a result, Jurgen Klopp is considering signing the French international to replace the Brazilian in the long run.

While Milan are ready to negotiate his departure, they are looking for a fee of around €90-100 million for their number one. And, they do not intend on negotiating his departure until the end of the 2023-24 season. As a result, it will be interesting to see what approach the Merseyside club takes.
