Tottenham have opened talks with Jonathan David’s representatives in case anything changes in the Harry Kane saga.
According to 90 Min, Tottenham are keeping their replacement options open in case Harry Kane leaves before the window shuts. They have been in contact with Jonathan David’s agents and could finalise a move for the 26-goal LOSC Lille forward.
Jonathan David has had a few accomplished seasons at Lille and has desires to play at a higher level. Despite reported interest in the Canadian forward in the last two windows, no club have made any concrete approaches this summer.
He remains a target for some, including Tottenham, who could dip late into the market if anything changes in the Harry Kane saga. The England captain is the subject of an intense chase from Bayern Munich, who pull all stops to sign the striker.
After Tottenham rejected their latest €100 million offer, Bayern may have plans to make a final push with an improved bid. As things stand, Kane could lean towards staying at the club rather than making a hasty exit once the season begins. Hence, time is running out for the Bavarians to make a concrete offer to convince the London side.
Meanwhile, Tottenham would not want to waste too much time signing a replacement. We had collated three potential options in case Kane leaves, and Jonathan David remains part of that list. There have been others that the Spurs were looking for, but the Canadian could fit them in many ways.
His price tag also fits into their price range, while his 26 goals last season showed his prowess in the striker role. If Kane does stay, there’s no chance of a new striker coming in, but David could have a solid impact if he does arrive.
Tottenham have opened talks with David’s agents to agree on terms beforehand. It does not guarantee a transfer would materialise but signifies their interest in signing the Canadian. They were interested in the Lille forward a while ago but remain stuck in the Kane dilemma.
For now, everything depends on Daniel Levy and what he does with Bayern’s forthcoming offer for their striker. If he rejects that, Kane will likely stay put and leave on a free next summer. In any case, Tottenham would like conversations with targets to resume the contact later.
David would bring massive goalscoring prowess that could help fill the void Kane left. He would also complement the likes of Heung-min Son and Richarlison in the attack, which would benefit Spurs.
