Manchester City have reportedly joined the race for 21-year-old Belgian star Jeremy Doku.

According to Fabrizio Romano on Twitter, Premier League champions Manchester City have joined the race for Stade Rennais star Jeremy Doku in the summer transfer window.

The 21-year-old is one of the finest wide men in Ligue 1 and is attracting attention from several top teams. Once touted as the next Sadio Mane, Doku’s potential is clear and he could thrive in the right system.

In Pep Guardiola, Manchester City one of the finest minds in world football at the helm, and the Catalan tactician should be able to get the best out of Doku. The Belgian is around the same age when Raheem Sterling moved to the Etihad and can take inspiration from the fact that the Englishman went on to thrive under Guardiola, taking his game to the next level.

The treble winners are in the market for a right-winger following Riyad Mahrez’s move to Saudi Arabia. The Algerian was a clutch player off the bench and scored several key goals for the club in the last few years. With him gone, Guardiola will need a new difference-maker who can come in and make an impact.

Primarily a right-winger, Doku can also do a job on the other flank. A solid dribbler and finisher, he is excellent in the final third and is capable of finding the back of the net on a regular basis. However, he does lack aerial prowess and struggles to defend when needed. Given his age, it is certainly something that can be taught for him to thrive at The Etihad.

Doku is fairly experienced for his age and has made 90 appearances for Rennes, scoring 11 goals and making 10 assists across all competitions. Signing him will not just future-proof the position for the Premier League champions but give them another dynamic attacker who can be built up for the long run.

Doku is not the only attacker on the club’s radar with Crystal Palace star Michael Olise also being monitored. It should be an interesting final month of the summer transfer window at The Etihad.
