Crystal Palace fail with bid to sign David Soria

Crystal Palace recently lodged an offer to sign 30-year-old Getafe goalkeeper David Soria, a target for Real Madrid this summer.

According to a report by Spanish outlet MARCA, David Soria is the subject of interest from Crystal Palace. And the Eagles have submitted a bid to sign the 30-year-old goalkeeper, a target for Real Madrid. But Getafe turned down the offer, as it did not meet the valuation they have placed on him.

David Soria passed through the academies of various clubs during his formative years. But he spent the longest time in Real Madrid’s famed La Fabrica setup, completing nearly a decade at the club. However, the Spaniard did not turn professional at Real Madrid and rose to prominence during his stint with Sevilla.

The 30-year-old spent half a decade with Sevilla, but he could not establish a foothold as an undisputed first-choice goalkeeper. And Soria’s stock has risen considerably since joining Getafe in July 2018. The player has turned out nearly 200 times for Getafe, conceding 193 goals while keeping 68 clean sheets.

But Soria’s future at Getafe is uncertain, with several clubs keen on securing his services this summer. And the Spanish goalkeeper is a target for Crystal Palace and Real Madrid in the ongoing transfer window. The two outfits want to sign him for vastly different reasons this summer.

Real Madrid will look to re-sign Soria this summer to replace Andriy Lunin. The Ukrainian shot-stopper is unsettled at the Santiago Bernabeu and wants to embark on a new adventure. And with Lunin seeking greener pastures, it behoves Real Madrid to scour the market, with Soria emerging as a viable target.

As for Crystal Palace, Vicente Guaita faces an uncertain at Selhurst Park. Coincidentally, the Spanish goalkeeper might move to Getafe, with widespread reports linking him with the Madrilinean club. Soria has thus emerged as a viable target, with Crystal Palace submitting an offer to sign him. But the Azulones have turned down the offer.

It is unclear if Crystal Palace will return with an improved bid to secure Soria’s services. Meanwhile, Getafe’s rejection of the proposal comes as a shot in the arm for Real Madrid. And it will be interesting to see where the 30-year-old Spaniard lands this summer.
