West Ham United will have to raise the bid to sign Scott McTominay after failing with a verbal offer for the Scottish international.
According to a report by The Times, West Ham United recently submitted a verbal bid to sign Scott McTominay. But the Hammers have failed with the offer and will have to return with a new proposal. Meanwhile, Manchester United will demand £45 million to part ways with the 26-year-old.
Scott McTominay has not known playing for a club other than Manchester United since he began his youth career. The Scottish international joined the Red Devils as a six-year-old in 2002. And after rising through the ranks at the club, he made his first-team debut for Manchester United as an 18-year-old in May 2017.
Since then, the 26-year-old has been a dependable performer for Manchester United while constantly battling to be the first-choice midfielder. Meanwhile, the player has turned out over 200 times for Manchester United, chipping in with 19 goals and five assists. But McTominay’s future at Old Trafford is uncertain.
Mason Mount has already bolstered the Manchester United midfield. In addition, the Red Devils are reportedly keen on signing Sofyan Amrabat in the ongoing transfer window. So the Scot will likely leave Manchester United this summer. And West Ham United will look to sign him in the coming weeks.
The Hammers have parted ways with former club captain Declan Rice, who has joined Arsenal, this summer. And after losing such a pivotal figure, West Ham might need to sign two midfielders. McTominay’s name has thus emerged on top of West Ham United’s wishlist this summer. And they recently approached Manchester United for the player.
The report by The Times has now revealed that West Ham recently made a verbal offer for the Scottish international. But Manchester United rebuffed the Hammers, with McTominay’s price tag being £45 million. Meanwhile, it is unclear if West Ham will match Manchester United’s valuation of the player this summer.
A summer move might be unlikely, with widespread reports suggesting West Ham will not pay the big bucks to secure McTominay’s services. So Manchester United might have to reduce the asking price from £45 million to part ways with the 26-year-old. And it will be interesting to see what the future has in store for the academy graduate.
