Eric Bailly closing in on joining Al Nassr

Eric Bailly has been linked with a move away from Manchester United this summer, with Al Nassr set to sign him.

According to journalist Marc Mechenoua, Saudi Arabian club Al Nassr are in talks to sign Eric Bailly this summer. And the Ivory Coast international is closing in on the move, where he will reunite with his former Manchester United teammate Cristiano Ronaldo.

Bailly is unlikely to get regular game time at Manchester United next season, and it makes sense for him to leave the club this summer. The 29-year-old needs to play regularly at this stage of his career, and Al Nassr will be able to provide him with that opportunity.

The Saudi Arabian club are likely to offer him a lucrative contract as well. At this stage of his career, the defender will be tempted to accept a financially lucrative deal that could set up his future.

Bailly joined Manchester United from Villarreal for a fee of around €38 million, and he was expected to develop into one of the best defenders in the world. However, he never quite managed to fulfil his tremendous potential because of persistent injury problems.

Even then, he was an impressive acquisition for the Red Devils and is likely to be a quality signing for the Saudi Arabian club as well. He will certainly help them improve and tighten up at the back. As for Manchester United, Raphael Varane and Lisandro Martinez are currently the first-choice central defenders at Old Trafford.

Apparently, the Red Devils could look to add more quality and depth to their defence. But it remains to be seen whether they sign another central defender before the summer transfer window closes.

Manchester United managed to win a domestic trophy last season, and they secured Champions League qualification. They will be looking to build on that and compete for major trophies next season.

They need to bring in the right reinforcements in order to compete with clubs like Manchester City and Arsenal. The Red Devils will have to improve all across the pitch and the proceeds from Bailly’s departure will certainly help them invest in the squad and bring in upgrades.
