Everton are interested in acquiring the services of the 19-year-old Leeds United midfielder Wilfried Gnonto.
According to a report by Football Insider, Everton are in talks to sign Wilfried Gnonto from Leeds United. The 19-year-old Italian international has made quite a name for himself with impressive performances over the past 12 months. And, the Toffees are keen on having him in their ranks.
Gnonto came through the ranks at Inter Milan before making the move to FC Zürich in the summer of 2020. After two impressive seasons with the Swiss club, the teenager joined Leeds United. He joined the English club in the summer of 2022 for a fee of just under £4 million. The Italian international has gone from strength to strength since moving to the Elland Road.
While he still has four years left on his deal with Leeds, the 19-year-old is expected to be on the move in the ongoing summer because of Leeds’s relegation from the English top flight. While the West Yorkshire-based club struggled throughout last season and ended up getting relegated to the second division, Gnonto still managed to put in some impressive performances which has caught the eyes of quite a few clubs.
The 19-year-old featured in a total of 28 matches for the English club last season. He was a part of the starting XI on 17 occasions and ended up contributing towards eight goals.
Meanwhile, Leeds United have already parted ways with Brenden Aaronson, Rasmus Kristensen and Marc Roca, who have left the club temporarily because of the loan relegation clause in their contract. But, Gnonto does not have such an agreement in place and is likely to part ways permanently.
Everton are the club keen on having him in their ranks. The Liverpool-based club somehow managed to survive in the Premier League with a 17th-place finish last season. They are now looking to work on their situation and bringing in necessary reinforcement to ensure they are in a better situation next season.
Sean Dyche is keen on having Gnonto in his squad. The Everton boss believes the 19-year-old’s versatility could do wonders for them. The Italian international is capable enough to feature anywhere in attack and he could help their cause next season.
Everton have been in talks with Leeds over a potential deal of late. And, they have also been in talks with his representatives. With the Toffees pushing hard for his signatures, it will be interesting to see if they can land him at the club before the start of next season.
