Blackburn Rovers have visibly changed their demands for Ashley Phillips, as they now seek a near-eight-figure package for Ashley Phillips.
According to The Sun, Blackburn Rovers now demand a near-eight-figure package from Tottenham for Ashley Phillips. The north London side had hoped to finalise a move of around £3 million for the 18-year-old English defensive sensation. But the £9.45 million demands have complicated the pursuit.
Ashley Phillips is widely regarded as one of the promising defensive names coming out of English football. Despite only making a few appearances for Blackburn Rovers in the Championship, the club considers him a top name in his circle and want top dollar for him.
Phillips has attracted plenty of interest from high-profile top-flight clubs this summer. Previous reports stated Tottenham had agreed a deal with Blackburn for the 18-year-old English defensive sensation. Considering the many teams keen on the youngster, it seemed like a sensational coup.
They would have beaten many rivals if Spurs had gone through with their nearly £3 million move for Phillips. Those included Liverpool and Manchester United, as Ange Postecoglou liked the idea of the 18-year-old English defensive sensation.
However, Blackburn may have paused those dreams, as they have made fresh demands to seal the deal. As things stand, the Championship side now want a near-eight-figure package with plenty of clauses.
The report in The Sun details what Blackburn seek with many clauses they want in the contract with Tottenham, including a mammoth 17.5% sell-on clause on top of everything. For starters, they now look for a £5 million guaranteed fee, which is considerably more than the previous figure of £2 million.
Blackburn want a significant portion of the guaranteed sum up front and the rest completed in the next two years. They would then want £150,000 when the 18-year-old makes his first Tottenham start and around ten more appearances related to up to 80 games, effectively taking his price tag to £6.5 million.
They will want a further £250,000 if Phillips starts more than half of Spurs games in his first two seasons. Then another £250,000 when the club qualifies for Europe, and the 18-year-old plays half of those games. Blackburn wants another £500,000 if the defender is part of a Premier League or Champions League-winning side.
Blackburn want another £1.45 million tied to international appearances, including at the Under-21 level for England. Overall, the deal seems nearly £9.45 million for Tottenham to sign Phillips, but they must act fast as rivals will take notice of these clauses.
