Manchester United have reportedly been handed a major boost in their pursuit of Atalanta striker Rasmus Hojlund, who wants an Old Trafford move over other suitors.
According to reputed Italian journalist Alfredo Pedulla, Atalanta have begun looking for Rasmus Hojlund replacements in a boost to Manchester United, who are the player’s preferred destination despite emerging interest from Paris Saint-Germain.
The Red Devils have been linked with a move for the 20-year-old striker throughout the summer and have made him their top striking target after seeing their interest in Harry Kane rebuffed by Tottenham.
They are locked in talks with the Bergamo-based outfit and are lining up their opening bid, having already agreed personal terms with the Dane, whose style of play has been compared to Erling Haaland.
The 20-year-old has scored 27 goals in 87 club career appearances and netted ten times in 34 outings for Atalanta last season. Hojlund has also scored six times in as many games for Denmark and is widely regarded as one of the hottest young attacking talents in European football.
The Serie A outfit initially held out for a deal worth in excess of €70 million for a player they paid less than €20 million for last summer, which seems to have knocked back United’s pursuit a bit. But that has not stopped PSG from launching an approach as they view Denmark as a potential Kylian Mbappe replacement.
PSG have also reportedly offered Atalanta the chance to sign Hugo Ekitike as part of a deal for Hojlund. The 21-year-old French forward is one of Atalanta’s top striker targets alongside Almeria’s El Bilal Toure, which could throw a spanner in Erik ten Hag’s transfer plans.
Likewise, there have been reports that Manchester United are ready to step up their parallel discussions for Eintracht Frankfurt striker Randal Kolo Muani over fears that Atalanta will not compromise on Hojlund’s valuation. However, take the Kolo Muani rumour with a pinch of salt, as the Frenchman is valued at nearly €100 million by Frankfurt, which is even more than Hojlund’s price tag.

As per Pedulla, the Red Devils remain the front-runners to land the young Dane, who has made it clear he only wants to join Manchester United at this stage, and that it’s now up to United to speed up negotiations quickly and submit an offer close to Atalanta’s decreased asking price of €60 million base fee plus bonuses to avoid a PSG hijack scenario.
