Fulham are all set to complete the signing of 23-year-old Ajax centre-back Calvin Bassey next week for a fee of €21 million.

According to Fabrizio Romano, Fulham were keen on having Calvin Bassey in their ranks ahead of next season and have finally reached an agreement with Ajax for his transfer. The 23-year-old who came through the ranks of Leicester City is all set to return to England.

Bassey was a part of the Foxes youth setup but he failed to break into their first team and ended up joining Rangers in the summer of 2020. He went from strength to strength at the Scottish club before making the move to Ajax ahead of the 2022-23 season.

In his very first season at the Dutch club, the 23-year-old featured in a total of 39 matches. He was on the pitch for almost 2800 minutes and even contributed towards six goals. The Nigerian international was exceptional throughout the season and his performances didn’t go unnoticed.

Fulham were one of the clubs interested in his services. While Bassey had joined Ajax just a year back and his contract ran until the summer of 2027, the Cottagers were confident about prising him away from the Dutch club.

And, that is exactly what they have managed. The English club have struck a deal worth €21 million for the services of the 23-year-old. The deal will include a sell-on clause as per the report. Fulham have been in talks with Ajax for a while now and after lengthy negotiations, they have finally reached an agreement.

The player was keen on making the move to the Premier League and has agreed on a long-term deal. With an agreement reached, the final few steps will take place next week before the official announcement.

Meanwhile, the Cottagers who were looking for defensive reinforcement have managed to sign an exceptional player who can feature as a centre-back as well as a left-back. His versatility will surely help their cause and he could end up being a great signing for the present as well as the future.
