Barcelona and Real Madrid are reportedly interested in signing 19-year-old Brazilian midfield sensation Victor Hugo.
According to a report by 90min, Victor Hugo is the latest Brazilian wonderkid to become a target for high-profile clubs in Europe. Barcelona and Real Madrid are keen on signing the 19-year-old midfield sensation. And the Flamengo whizkid is also a target for other top teams, including Newcastle United.
Victor Hugo has spent his formative years thus far in his homeland. The Brazilian wonderkid has been with Flamengo since 2016 and has come up the ranks at the Maracana. And after making his mark in age-group football, he made his first-team debut as a 17-year-old in May 2022.
Since then, the 19-year-old midfield sensation has come leaps and bounds, establishing himself as a regular for Flamengo. Hugo has turned out 25 times across all competitions this season while chipping in with three goals and one assist. And the youngster’s progress has not gone unnoticed either, with Barcelona and Real Madrid among his prospective suitors.
Barcelona and Real Madrid are renowned for constantly foraying into the Brazilian market for the most prodigious prospects. And both clubs have recently signed a youngster each from the South American nation. While Vitor Roque is on the cusp of arriving at FC Barcelona, Real Madrid will soon greet Endrick.
Meanwhile, the Merengues have a richer recent history of grooming Brazilian prospects into world-class players. And Vinicius Junior and Rodrygo Goes are the shining examples of Real Madrid’s endeavour. As for Barcelona, the Catalan giants remain in the market for a midfielder despite landing Oriol Romeu.
The Blaugrana recently showed interest in Romeo Lavia, although a move has not materialised. So pursuing Victor Hugo makes sense for Barcelona. But it is surprising that Real Madrid might make a move for the 19-year-old Brazilian midfield sensation after signing Jude Bellingham and Arda Guler this summer.

But the Merengues seldom let go of opportunities to sign the most prodigious prospects. So it will be interesting to see if Real Madrid will beat Barcelona to Victor Hugo’s signature in the ongoing transfer window. Meanwhile, the 19-year-old Brazilian midfield sensation is also a target for Newcastle United.
