Crystal Palace are close to securing the signature of Torino defender Perr Schuurs
According to Tuttosport (h/r Sport Witness), Premier League side Crystal Palace are getting closer to securing the signing of Torino star Perr Schuurs in the ongoing summer transfer window.
The Dutchman has been a rock at the back for the Italian side since joining them from Ajax Amsterdam in the summer of 2022. He has since made 33 appearances for Il Toro, scoring once and assisting two more.
Schuurs has been the standout defender for Torino and has done a solid job of replacing Gleison Bremer after the Brazilian left for Juventus last summer. Good with the ball at his feet and an excellent tackler, the Dutchman has taken to the Italian league like a fish to water.
At 23, the Dutchman is a long-term investment and is well worth the risk. Palace are in a state of rebuild and could do with a reliable centre-back alongside Marc Guehi. In many ways, Schuurs can complement the former Chelsea man well and this collection of traits could help secure Palace’s rearguard.

Liverpool were also heavily linked with a move for the defender but it would now appear that Roy Hodgson’s men now have the upper hand. Cashing in on the player is also in Torino’s best interests and will help them sign players this summer.
The Italians are seeking a transfer fee in the range of €35m and €40ml and are in no mood to lower their demands. With an agreement already reached with the player in principle, the onus is now on the Premier League side to fork out the cash.
At the quoted price, Schuurs is well worth the gamble and has all the necessary traits to thrive in the Premier League. Capable of also slotting in at defensive midfield, Schuurs will add technical expertise to a Palace roster that has been more brawn than brains in recent years.
Meanwhile, West Ham United are also in the race to sign the Dutch star. The Hammers have a more pressing need for centre-backs and it remains to be seen if they can beat Palace to the punch. After all, armed with the Declan Rice money, David Moyes and co could put a dent on their rivals.
