Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson is considering a Middle East transfer, with Al Ettifaq keen.
According to The Athletic, Saudi Arabian side Al Ettifaq are ramping up their interest in Liverpool skipper Jordan Henderson in the ongoing summer transfer window. And the veteran midfielder is considering the move to the Middle East.
The 33-year-old has been a key player in the club’s success under Jurgen Klopp and has lifted every major trophy for the Reds in the last few years. In many ways, one can claim that he has done well to live up to expectations after taking over as the Liverpool captain from Steven Gerrard.
The Merseyside legend is now the manager at Al Ettifaq and is keen to reunite with Henderson ahead of the 2023/24 season. The Middle East has emerged as a lucrative option for European stars this summer, and Henderson could be the latest player to seek a huge payday.
A move will not just reunite him with Gerrard but also see Henderson take home massive wages. Al Ettifaq are ready to quadruple his current wages. more or less giving him a grand payday in his twilight years. The chances of him earning such money at this point in his career elsewhere is unlikely and one can understand Henderson’s temptation to make the switch.
The 77-cap English international is set to make an imminent decision and his future plans should be made public soon. Talks between the two clubs will proceed once the midfielder gives the green light.
Given that Henderson has two years left on his current deal at Anfield, Al Ettifaq will need to pay Liverpool a transfer fee to land their man. The Reds are unlikely to let their skipper leave on the cheap, if at all. After all, Henderson can be considered a club legend for his exploits on Merseyside.
At 33, Henderson’s impact on the field is on the wane, but his skill as a leader is unquestionable. Having already lost another veteran in James Milner, it remains to be seen if Klopp is ready to also sacrifice his skipper.
