Newcastle United finalising Harvey Barnes swoop

Eddie Howe’s Newcastle United are closing in on signing of the 25-year-old Leicester City forward Harvey Barnes.

According to a report by The Times, Newcastle United are keen on having Harvey Barnes in their ranks. And it is believed a £35 million deal could be completed within a week’s time. The 25-year-old has been doing a great job for the Foxes over the years but is expected to be on the move following their relegation.

Barnes has been a part of the Leicester City setup since his childhood days. He has come up the ranks at the club and managed to establish himself as a regular in the first team. The 25-year-old has gone from strength to strength over the past few seasons, and there is a lot of interest in his services.

The England international featured in a total of 40 matches last season and managed to contribute towards 16 goals, including 13 strikes. Despite his efforts, he could not help Leicester City avoid relegation. With the Foxes relegated, the 25-year-old’s future has been uncertain and he is expected to be on the move as they look to raise funds.

Leicester City have already lost seven players after their contracts expired. On top of that, they have sold James Maddison to Tottenham Hotspur for £40 million. And, with Barnes likely to be on the move, they are set to undergo a major overhaul. Meanwhile, Newcastle are keen on having Barnes in their ranks.

The Magpies wanted to sign him last summer. But the £50 million price tag was a bit too much for them. However, with Foxes relegated, they are forced to lower their asking price. And, as per the report, a deal of around £35 million could be agreed within this week. Newcastle United have already secured the services of midfielder Sandro Tonali for £55 million from AC Milan.

Now, their priority is to land the 25-year-old at the club. The two clubs have been involved in fresh talks over the past 24 hours. The talks have been positive, and even the player is keen on making the move. As a result, a £35 million transfer is expected to be executed within this week.
