Jose Mourinho’s AS Roma are keen on acquiring the services of 26-year-old Manchester United midfielder Scott McTominay.
According to Gianluca Di Marzio, AS Roma are interested in signing Scott McTominay ahead of next season. The 26-year-old’s future has been uncertain for a while now, and he could be on his way to the Serie A club in the ongoing summer window.
McTominay has been a part of the Manchester United setup since his childhood days. He has come up the ranks at the club and was promoted to their first team back in the summer of 2017. He has played an integral part in the little success that they have had over the past few seasons.
While there are still two years left on his contract, the 26-year-old is expected to be on the move in the ongoing summer. Erik ten Hag is keen on strengthening his squad and he has already signed Mason Mount. But, the Dutch manager has a limited budget to work with.
In order to have more funds available, the former Ajax boss is ready to offload a few of their stars and McTominay is a part of that list. The Scottish international made 39 appearances last season but was on the pitch for less than 1,700 minutes.
He is not an important part of Ten Hag’s plan, and the Dutch manager is ready to sell but only for the right price. Meanwhile, Roma have emerged as a club that are keen on having the 26-year-old in their ranks. The Serie A giants are keen on strengthening their midfield, and McTominay is one of their targets.
Mourinho wanted to sign Davide Frattesi, but the 23-year-old has decided to join Inter Milan. As a result, the Portuguese manager has been forced to look at alternatives and he has his eyes set on the 26-year-old he has worked with in the past.
The Roma manager is a big admirer of the Scottish international and believes he could be a great fit for the club. With Manchester United ready to sell, it might not be that difficult to sign the 26-year-old. However, Roma could face competition from elsewhere.
